Below are just some misc. close-up pics of various parts. As you can see the finish is not perfect, I had never tried to finish anything this fine before. The tube was finished with 6 coats of hihg gloss exterior polyurethane. All other parts were given 4 coats. I did not have a spray rig so the finish coats were applied with a foam brush and rubbed with 0000 steel wool between coats. Many many hours went into this process and I finally had to resign myself to the final product. The less than smooth clear coat is not evident to the naked eye as much as when using the flash. Oak and especially the oak plywood turned out to be very difficult to sand and finish smooth, the grain opened up when the stain went on even though it was sanded smooth. Will try some sanding sealer the next time I use oak. If anyone has any tips on this I'd appreciate them.
